Submission Guidelines

Before you submit to The Echo, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with prior issues of our magazine. We showcase the work of students with diverse inspiration and subjects, thus, we encourage you to let your imagination roam free. That is unless it includes any of the following outlawed characteristics. We don’t mean to limit your creativity with the following guidelines, but we do have some standards.

GUIDELINES FOR PROSE (including Scripts and Screenplays):

We try to set word limits to 2000 words (exceptions will be made on a case by case basis, but try to keep it close). We prefer to publish stand-alone pieces, with the exception of those that were written to go with the Art of the Week piece that’s posted on the website. All content must be original; we don’t want to have to use turnitin.com. Also, please proofread (if you haven’t read your own piece more than twice, why should we?).

Things we won’t accept:

  • Fanfiction
  • “It was all a dream!” endings
  • Unnecessary vulgarity
  • Illegal confessions
  • Erotica
  • Anime
  • Memes
  • Tumblr posts
  • Unfinished pieces

GUIDELINES FOR ART:

  • No nipples (not our rule)
  • No memes
  • No anime
  • No genitalia

Please don’t turn in your only copy of an art piece; we aren’t responsible if it disappears.

We recommend that you scan the piece and send a file via the website or email to submissions.echo@gmail.com. If you don’t have access to a scanner, email us the image or print it out and turn it into the Submissions basket in room 211.

GUIDELINES FOR POETRY:

We accept poems in both free verse and traditional forms and have no particular length requirements. Preferably, poems are stand-alone pieces unless they were written to go with the Art of the Month piece that’s posted on the website.

Things we won’t accept:

  • Fanfiction
  • Unnecessary vulgarity
  • Illegal confessions
  • Erotica
  • Memes
  • Tumblr posts
  • Unfinished pieces

Final Notes:

For any more submissions guidance, our genre editors have made individual posts on the website detailing the types of pieces they’re looking for. We encourage you to check them out, and we can’t wait to see what you share with us.

With Love,

The Echo
